Changing the fonts for use throughout your app is as easy as changing your color palette.
Setting the fonts for your app means that your selected fonts are reflected throughout every part of your app. So, if you have fonts specified in your branding suite, it's easy to add these to the font theme to reflect your company's style and brand.
In Appeggio, we use Google Fonts. There are 1,500+ fonts available to choose from.
You can set up to four fonts to use within your app. To do this, open up Settings, and select 'Fonts'. Here, you'll be able to set your primary, secondary, neutral, and accent fonts.
When choosing your fonts, you'll see them previewed so that you get a view of how each letter will appear on the page:
Let's take a look at selecting some fonts, and then applying them to two separate pieces of text:
Text will default to the primary font unless you specify otherwise.
To change the font of a particular piece of text, select that text, then select the Font Editor on the right menu. There, you'll be able to select the fonts under the Family tab.
“What font should I use?”
That’s a great question, and unfortunately, there is no simple answer! In fact, there are whole professions dedicated to typography. However, there are some common suggestions related to best practice in choosing fonts:
The font should be legible. Words need to be able to be read for maximum audience engagement. If your words cannot be easily read, the message is lost and your users may go elsewhere.
The space between letters, also known as kerning, should be optimal. If the kerning is too tight, words can appear scrunched and our brains tend to run the letters together. Alternatively, if too much kerning is applied and the letters are too far-spaced, we tend to read the text slower. Choose a font where the spacing looks just right so your readers don’t have to work harder than necessary.
There’s no need to be overly fancy - keep it plain and simple and your readers will thank you!
Our suggestion would be to keep decorative fonts to logos and for use within images such as infographics or other creative assets. It’s best to avoid decorative fonts for body text. You never want to confuse the reader with improper legibility.
In the Settings Menu > Fonts, you can set the sizes of various standard text formats and see a live preview of how these look. There are twelve text sizes you can set, from H1 (the largest) to H12 (the smallest).
Like font types, when you set the font sizes within the Settings, these are text sizes reflected throughout the app.

You'll note that we can also change the size, weight, line height and style of particular texts using the Font Editor. This is covered in the page.
