Adding a video component to your app can improve user engagement, facilitate a better understanding of content, enhance information retention, and serve as a great tool for marketing and storytelling.
It’s easy to add a video part to your app, and there are two key ways to do this.
Upload a video and thumbnail image
Insert a YouTube video
To add either type of video, select the part where you’d like to add your video.
Location in the Parts Library: Base parts > Data Display > Video
In the Parts Library, go to Base parts, select the Video part, and add it to your page.
You will see that you’ve added a placeholder video and thumbnail. Changing both the video and the thumbnail is easy.
Select the video, and you will see the video editor in the right navigation.
To change the the cover image, select the ‘Cover Image’ property. This will open the Media Gallery where you can either select an image you’ve previously uploaded, or you can upload a new image from your device.
To change the video, select the 'Video' property in the right navigation. This will open the Media Gallery, showing any available videos within the library that you've previously uploaded. You can also upload a new video from your device.
Location in the Parts Library: Base parts > Data Display > YouTubeVideo
In the Parts Library, go to Base parts, select the YouTube Video part, and add it to your page.
You will see that you’ve added a placeholder YouTube video. You'll need to change the YouTube ID to ensure the video you want to play is pointing to the correct video.
Locate the YouTube video you want to add. The video will have a URL that looks something like this:
You will need the ID of the video, which is the letter and number sequence immediately following “v=” in the URL. In the example above, the YouTube ID is therefore 19v8Lwxyq1I, and this is the ID we need to add.
Please note that you cannot change the cover image on your page of the YouTube video. What will be displayed on your page is the thumbnail that is on the YouTube video itself.
